Visiting Cubbon Park with Kids: A Parent's Guide

Family enjoying a picnic at Cubbon Park, Bengaluru

Cubbon Park is one of the best places in Bengaluru to spend a day with kids. No entry fee, plenty of shade, open spaces to run, and enough variety to keep children entertained for hours.

Best Areas for Kids

The Central Lawn — The large open grass area is perfect for kids to run around, play catch, or fly kites. It's flat, well-maintained, and surrounded by trees so you always have shade nearby.

The Toy Train Area — Near the Bal Bhavan (Children's Park) adjacent to Cubbon Park, there's a toy train that kids love. It runs on weekends and holidays.

The Aquarium — The Bangalore Aquarium inside the park is one of the oldest in India. It's small but fascinating for young children who haven't seen tropical fish up close.

The Shaded Paths — Toddlers and younger children enjoy the wide, tree-lined paths. The fallen leaves, squirrels, and occasional butterfly sighting keep them engaged.

Activities for Different Ages

Toddlers (1-3 years)

  • Walking the shaded paths
  • Watching squirrels and dogs at the pet area
  • Splashing near the small water features
  • Collecting leaves and flowers
  • Young Children (4-8 years)

  • Cycling on the wider paths (bring their own bike)
  • Bird spotting with a simple picture guide
  • Picnicking on the central lawn
  • The toy train and aquarium
  • Older Kids (9-12 years)

  • Photography walks
  • Sketching the heritage buildings
  • Joining family-friendly events on Cubbon Park Life
  • Exploring the entire park on foot
  • Practical Tips for Parents

  • Timing: Arrive by 8 AM on weekends to get a good spot on the lawn. Weekday mornings are much quieter.
  • Food: There are no food stalls inside the park. Pack snacks, water, and a simple lunch. The nearest restaurants are on MG Road, a short walk away.
  • Restrooms: Limited facilities inside the park. The restrooms near the State Library are the most accessible.
  • Sun protection: Despite the tree cover, the central lawn gets direct sun by mid-morning. Bring hats and sunscreen.
  • Footwear: Closed shoes are better than sandals — some paths have roots and uneven spots.
  • Insects: Carry basic mosquito repellent, especially if visiting during or after monsoon.
  • Making It Educational

Cubbon Park is a living classroom:

  • Botany: The park has labelled trees — use them to teach kids about different species
  • History: The heritage buildings tell the story of Bengaluru's past. Older kids find this genuinely interesting
  • Wildlife: Even in the city centre, the park supports squirrels, butterflies, birds, and small reptiles
  • Weekend Family Events

Community members regularly organise family-friendly events at Cubbon Park — nature walks, storytelling sessions, and art activities. Browse the events on Cubbon Park Life to find something your kids would enjoy.
